A: Sunsource is a resource to enable Sun and its business associates to exchange vital project information in a secure and confidential, one-stop location.
A: Sunsource hosts projects, whose members have access rights and privileges to exchange information pertinent to their specific projects. Project owners determine who shall be enrolled as project members and what access rights they will have.
A: CollabNet hosts this site as a commercial service on behalf of Sun Microsystems. CollabNet performs certain administrative and support functions to keep this site running smoothly. CollabNet originally developed SourceCast to support the needs of the open source community. Therefore, some of the online help documentation makes reference to open source philosophies. However, SourceCast is equally well-suited to proprietary commercial endeavors, such as this one. Sun has worked with CollabNet to adapt SourceCast to the needs of our enterprise.
A: Yes.
A: SourceCast enables collaborative development through web-based tools made available to project owners and developers who become project members. SourceCast combines the best-of-breed open source tools into a web-based software development suite. Key features of this tool set are security, scalability, extensibility, and customizability.
A: SourceCast provides simple, powerful Web interfaces for version control, issue tracking, discussions and decision-making, project management and knowledge management. Project owners can configure these tools within each project and grant roles to project participants to fit the needs of the project.
A: Send any questions or comments of a general nature about SourceCast's capabilities to feedback@sourcecast.com.
A: At this time you only need a modern web browser that supports 128-bit SSL security and any text-capable email client. You will probably find email messages from Sunsource easier to use if your email client allows you to click on hyperlinks to open a web browser window.
A: Use the "Start New Project" links in the Start Page or subsequent pages to access a brief, four-screen project creation process. After you have submitted your project information, you're able to view and customize your newly created project home page. You project is in a "pending" status until approved by site administrators. Read more about the process.
A: Yes. In fact, the whole point of the Sunsource site is to allow you and other project users to exchange proprietary content with each other in a secure manner. All content submitted through your web browser will be SSL encrypted in both directions. PLEASE NOTE: Email messages sent through the mailing lists are NOT encrypted by the Sunsource server. Please use the Discussions Forums if you have secure information that needs to be discussed on-line.
A: Discussion forums provide a place for threaded discussions on topics related to your project. All submissions are archived so that all project users, including those added after the posting is made, may refer back to the information. You may browse through discussion forums, search for specific content, and subscribe to one or more forums. Subscribing to a forum means that you will receive an email message when a new posting is made to that forum. The email message will not contain any content other than a URL to the discussion posting (thus keeping the content secure). For more information on Discussion forums, please refer to the on-line help.
A: The Sunsource site is NOT using the "Share Code" version control feature of SourceCast at this time. Instead, use the "File Sharing" tool within your project to download or upload project-related files including source files (typically as a released group of files).
A: The Sun project manager determines all users for his or her project. You may contact your Sun project manager to suggest additional users, but project membership is solely at the project manager's discretion.
A: SourceCast takes appropriate steps to protect the information you share through the Sunsource site from unauthorized access or disclosure.
In addition to user ID and password authentication, SourceCast implements SSL security with a digital certificate. All pages in SourceCast are secured through SSL encryption over a secure HTTP link to protect any information in those pages and to authenticate that user information is sent to the correct server.
